(June 18, 2025) – Ripple Fiber, a provider of high-speed fiber internet services, has expanded to Illinois with a groundbreaking this week on a $104 million infrastructure project near Chicago's O’Hare International Airport.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based company is kicking off the 1,250-mile network expansion in Elk Grove Village that will bring internet services to customers.

“For broadband internet, fiber optic technology is superior to cable. Our service will be a welcome option for residents,” said Greg Wilson, founder and CEO of Ripple Fiber. “Staff will ramp up 20 to 100 employees in the greater Chicago metro area.”

Ripple is “accessing utility easements and aerial infrastructure to complete this project,” he said.

The project is slated for completion in the third quarter.

“Construction typically lasts a few weeks,” he said. “We activate service for customers as we go, and I expect this current build to be completed in 18 to 24 months.”

The project focuses on Cook and DuPage counties, but Wilson said, “We will continue to explore expansion opportunities in the surrounding areas.”
